While Verizon’s big claim around here is that you can make phone call in the sticks, realistically, if you’re that far out from any cell service, you’re essentially SOL in using your phone (GPS, looking something up, etc). AT&T has the best building penetration, so your phone is more useful inside places.

I too switched from Verizon to Fi and had my old number ported over. Just do not formally call to cancel Verizon until the port is completed. Adding, if you have a tablet with a separate Verizon phone sim/number, make sure you order a Fi data only sim and also cancel the tablet.
